Das Blaue vom Himmel is a story about the power of love and the virtue of forgiving. All her life Marga (Hannelore Elsner) has hidden her true feelings from her daughter, Sofia (Juliane Köhler). Finally, she opens up, revealing her fears, and a deep longing for her husband, Juris, who passed away several years ago. Growing increasingly forgetful, she starts to demand tenderness in a childlike way. This presents an unusual situation for Sofia, who, after barely being in contact with her mother, finds herself having to take care of someone who's brusque one minute and funny the next. Present and then completely absent. Seemingly relieved, Marga rbegins to rid herself of her memories, talking about events from the distant past, things Sofia has never heard about. On the hunch that her mother's past might affect her own, Sofia decides to travel to Riga with her mother. That's where Marga grew up and where she met Juris. But the more Sofia finds out about her mother, the more confused she becomes about who she is. And soon she realizes that everything her mother has told her about their shared past couldn't have been further from the truth...
