On December 13, at 19:00 cinema Splendid Palace will offer a live broadcast of European Academy Awards Ceremony from Latvian National Opera, bringing together European film-makers, European Film Academy members, guests, nominees and winners to honour the best European cinematographic works. Live broadcast is supported by Lattelecom.
From 2 December to 12 December cinema Splendid Palace will host Riga International Film Festival (Riga IFF), the programme of which includes both the latest Latvian films and retrospectives, and the most topical European films.
On 6 December from 13:00 to 19:00 within the framework Riga International Film Festival, Riga Film Museum will offer a special event - a film programme, created by the British Film Institute, which characterises a typical 1914 film session. The programme "A Night at the Cinema in 1914" consists of 14 British and American films: comedies, adventure films, travel reviews and newsreel films, made in 1914.
On December 12 at 19.00 Splendid Palace will host the only screening in Riga of film The Beaches of Agnes (French: Les plages d'Agnès), welcoming the great French director Agnes Varda who this year received the European Film Academy Award for lifetime achievement in the film industry.
In December cinema Splendid Palace will host a number of outstanding cinema events, promising not only an excellent film programme with previously not screened films, but also a unique opportunity to experience the long-awaited European film event - the European Academy Award Ceremony which is to take place on 12 December and 13 December. There will be screenings of the nominated films, panel discussions among international industry experts, as well as lectures and master classes by globally acknowledged professionals and personalities.
