09.09.20

“Splendid Palace”, one of the most beautiful and oldest movie theatres in Europe, will continue to show excellent, high-quality films that have gained recognition from film lovers and professionals all over the world during the new 97th film season.

This fall, viewers will have their first encounter with unforgettable classical values in Federico Fellini's scandalous and glorious 1961 film La Dolce Vita”. It brought the film director worldwide fame and awards – the Palme d'O of the

Festival de Cannes and two Academy Awards.

In this film, Fellini changed his style, abandoning harsh, reality-based stories and his heroes, telling about sex-loving, beautiful people who wander the streets and squares of the eternal city of Rome, searching for and losing themselves. Its lead character is a journalist called Marcello – a bohemian, who loves women, close to political and intellectual elites. He is an inhabitant and observer of the sweet life of Rome.

Starting this week, the comedy and crime film “Mama Weed” (directed by Jean-Paul Salomé) will be shown in the movie theatre. This film demonstrates the talent of the legendary comedy actress Isabella Ipera, a real benefice. The lead character, a French-Arabic interpreter, works for the anti-drug squad in Paris. To get rid of the unpaid debt, she starts a drug dealer business by taking over a lot of marijuana. She continues to sell the product to small dealers, continuing to work for the police, which leads to surprising adventures.

The film "Mama Weed" will be shown at the “Splendid Palace” movie theatre from September 11.

Comedy plays an important role in the crisis, so the first special premiere of the “Splendid Palace” movie theatre's autumn season will be film director Armando Iannucci's comedy drama The Personal History of David Copperfield on September 15, 2020. The film is based on the novel "David Copperfield" by the classic British novelist Charles Dickens, and features the main roles of Dev Patel, Hugh Laurie and Tilda Swinton. Before the premiere, film critic and journalist Dārta Ceriņa, who had the opportunity to interview the film director online during the global pandemic, will give a speech.
